Setting up your website template:

Step 1:
EDIT FLASH ANIMATION: | Click for more details
Open the "flash.txt" file with Notepad and change "Yoursitetitle.com" to match your name or company name. Be sure not to delete the "logo=". Edit the phrase following "&slogan=" to add your slogan to the Flash header. This will change the Flash logo on all pages. You can also replace the small image in the top corner with your own .jpg graphic. Simply replace the "flash-icon.jpg" that you will find in the "picts" folder. If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document.

Step 2:
EDIT FOOTER: | Click for more details | Variable help
Open the "footer.js" in Notepad or any text editor. At the top of this file you will see 5 options you can change. Change the "Your Company" and "info@yourdomain.com" lines to match your information. This will change the footer info on all pages. Edit all ".js" files with a text editor.

Step 3:
EDIT CONTACT INFO: | Click for more details
Open the "phone.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the company name, address, phone number and e-mail address. This will change contact info on the contact page.

Step 4:
EDIT THE CONTACT FORM: | Click for more details
If you are setup with an KiT hosting account. Go to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail" and install the free script "Formail" then edit the contact.htm page and replace "your-domain.com" in 3 places with your domain.

If you are not set up with KiT hosting or do not have "Formail" installed. You can either setup the contact form to use another contact script, download and install Formail on your server or you can remove the contact form from the pages between the comment tags.

If you wish to change the colors and sizes of the form elements you can open the "coolstyle.css" in Notepad or any text editor and change the ".shadeform" ".textarea" and ".dropdown" variables.

Step 5:
REPLACE THE CART GALLERY PICTURES: | Click for more details | Thumbnail Help
The best way to setup the pictures in the gallery is not to actually edit the HTML pages and change the pictures on each individual page. The fastest way is to simply replace the pictures in the "gallery" directory with your own by overwriting the files that are in there now and using the same generic names.

In the "gallery" folder: Replace all the "Fgallery" and 2 "Fspecial" pictures with full size photos. Replace all the "gallery" and 2 "special" pictures with your thumbnails. The thumbnails are now 100 x 100 pixels but you can make them any size that you prefer. This will update the 6 product gallery pages and the specials.html.

Replace the four "product-?.jpg" images in the "gallery" folder for the four detailed product pages linked on the index.html.

Replace the four "home-product-?.jpg" images in the "picts" folder. These are the thumbnails on the index.html or homepage.

POP UP WINDOW OPTIONS: | Click for more details
This template includes some options for the pop-up windows. To change these options, open your "pop-closeup.js" in Notepad and put a "yes" or "no" (all lowercase) for the options you want to change. You can also change the height and width variables as well as turn on and off the scrollbars. See the notes in the "pop-closeup.js" for details

Step 6:
EDIT SIDEBARS: | Click for more details
Open the "sidebar-left.js" or "sidebar-right.js" in Notepad or any text editor, and edit the text and links with your own text. You will also find some options at the top of these file for the scroller application. Editing these 2 sidebar files will update all the pages at one time. You may want to review the Advanced users .js editing support page. This page is helpful if you are adding items to a .js file.

SIDEBAR SCROLLER:
The scroller in the sidebar is actually showing 3 HTML pages that you will simply edit like normal web pages. Edit the 3 "scroller?.html" pages in the "scroller" folder. Change the scroller fonts and colors in the "scroller.css". You can edit the "background-scroller.jpg" with your own image. And edit the "scroll.variables0.js" to change the scroller size or speed or add or remove pages to the scroller window. If you add links to the sidebar pages, be sure to view the "scroller2.html" page for the proper code to target the links.

SIDEBAR MAIL LIST (newsletter):
To setup or turn off the sidebar maillist or newsletter form, please see this support page.

SIDEBAR VIEW CART BUTTON:
Edit the "sidebar-right.js" and change the "your@email.com" after the "var paypal_email" to your Paypal e-mail. For the other Paypal forms see the info later in this document.

Step 7:
EDIT PAGES: | Software choices | Notepad Editing
Change the text on all pages to match your information. You can use Frontpage, Dreamweaver, GoLive, any wysiwyg HTML editor or a text editor like Notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text.

Step 8:
EDIT THE PAYPAL CART: | Click for more details
To setup the Paypal cart you will edit a total of 11 HTML pages, one .js file and 2 links in the site_map.htm.
STEP 1: Set up a paypal merchant account. You will be editing template files with your Paypal e-mail.

STEP 2: EXAMPLE: Edit the Paypal form in the first product page. Find this note "START PAYPAL FORM 1" in the "product1.htm". Edit four items:

A. Replace "your@email.com" with your Paypal e-mail.
B. Edit the item_name "Product 1".
C. Edit the amount "39.99".
D. Edit the return after payment page, replace "your-domain.com" with your domain.

For more help with this editing see this support page.

STEP 3: While still editing the "product1.htm", edit or delete the "START OPTIONS AREA" with any options you require. If you require no options delete the code between the "START OPTIONS AREA" notes. If you need an option that will change the item price see this support page.

STEP 4: Now you will want to edit all forms as shown in STEP 2 & 3 in these pages:

Four product?.htm pages
Six gallery?.htm pages
One specials.htm

STEP 5: In the "sidebar-right.js" edit the "your@email.com" (top line) with your Paypal e-mail. This will update the view cart button.

STEP 6: Edit two links in the "site_map.htm". Find this code and replace the highlighted part with your Paypal e-mail: https://www.paypal.com/cart/business=your@email.com&display=1

OPTIONS: You can add more options or shipping to the Paypal forms.

Step 9:
EDIT TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS: | Click for more details
Open each of the pages and change the titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Keywords are very important so your site will get a good listing at google or msn and other search engines.

Step 10:
UPLOAD: | Click for more details
Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software like CuteFTP or Coffee Cup (free) or your control panel. Be sure to make a directory called picts on your server and put the pictures into that directory.

Options:

USING A GRAPHIC LOGO:
You can replace the Flash logo with a graphic logo. To do this, delete or rename the "header.js", then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts directory you will find a graphic called "logo.jpg". Edit this graphic with your logo. It's best to keep the graphic the same size that it is now unless you edit the image size numbers in the new "header.js".

SETUP THE SEARCH FORM:
To setup the search form included in this model to be a site search:
  1. Download WebSearch
  2. Configure and install websearch as indicated in the documentation. All this involves is uploading "websearch.pl" into your cgi-bin. Then CHMOD 755 this file with your FTP software.
  3. Delete or rename the search.js, then rename the OPTIONAL-Burgdorf-search.js to search.js.
  4. Edit the "your-domain.com" variable in the search.js near the top with your domain name.
  5. Edit "your-domain.com" in one place in the search.htm
  6. To have the header and footer match your template on the search page and info on other options see this support page.
If you do not have a cgi-bin with your hosting account you can still setup a site search through Google. Click for details

NOTE ABOUT ADDING MORE PRODUCTS TO THE index.html:
If you add more rows of products to the index.html, you will need to create new mouseover names and add these new names to the "mouseover.js" to make the "view details" button hover colors work.

FONTS: | Click for more details
You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "corporatestyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "corporatestyle.css" file. Change the "TABLE" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "title" px size to change all the title sizes.

CHANGING / ADDING TO THE MENU: | Click for more details
You can change the names on the buttons like "about us" or "contact" to other page names by editing the "menu.js" in Notepad. Only change the one instance of the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it. Whatever you change in the menu.js will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so they don't go outside the menu. You can even add more pages by copying one button in the menu.js and pasting it right below the next. Be sure to back up your files before you edit them. Links can also be added to either sidebar.js file.

PICTURES: | Click for more details
You can replace all the template pictures with your own. Replace the 4 home-product-?.jpg images in the picts folder to update the homepage images. Edit the 4 "product-?.jpg" images (gallery folder) to update your 4 product pages. The about page has one image, the sidebars have 3 images and the random header image is using 4 .jpg images. You will find all pictures in the "picts" and "gallery" folders.

ADDING PAGES: | Click for more details | Add a Gallery
You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or even add the page to the menu by opening the menu.js and copying and pasting one of the links below another. There are notes in the "menu.js" to help you add a link.
